Bradley martyn scannerz11/9/2022 ![]() ![]() If you would donate your time to look cool in a pink high-vis we would love to hear from you. No parkrun can operate without a few volunteers especially as we head into the summer holidays. ![]() We shouted out during the pre-run brief to ask if there were any milestones but I guess these folks didn’t realise that they qualified for a new purple t-shirt this week or they were shy, either way our congratulations go to Angelica Copping and Sharon Hollister for completing 25 parkruns. Her response, “I call him Sir Hill”, said with a laugh. Her only complaint, our course description says “ It’s largely flat and run on gravel or tarmac paths, but with a section of bark-chipped footpath (which includes the uphill stretch nicknamed ‘Up Pomphrey’.” I joked that we call the hill, “Mr Hill” as he demands respect. Caron Rogers was particularly impressed with how welcoming and friendly we are. We know there were a few first timers with us, twenty six in fact, including some visiting from Bournemouth and Wales. We bid a warm welcome to Sam Cottle who ran his very first parkrun with us. Some folks took the “the quicker I run the sooner it’s over” approach allowing 13 of our runners to celebrate a PB this morning! We hope you had fun regardless of what attitude you took! ![]() We started the morning encouraging folks to have a good time rather than run for good time. Looking cool as a cucumber though were our heroes in a High-Vis vest, our volunteers. It was probably one of the hottest parkruns at Pomphrey Hill today. A total of 1,201 individuals have volunteered 8,632 times. Since then 11,987 participants have completed 88,114 parkruns covering a total distance of 440,570 km, including 15,008 new Personal Bests. The event was made possible by 24 volunteers: Representatives of 26 different clubs took part. This week 212 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 13 were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests. Thank you for the opportunity to do my volunteering with parkrun. I would recommend volunteering to anyone looking to have a week off from running or if recovering from an injury. I would just like to thank the organisers for giving me the chance to do this and all the volunteers helping me along the way. I have really enjoyed all the different roles from cheering people on to the stressful job of timing the run. ![]() I have been volunteering at parkrun for 3 months now for my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. We had a total of 212 runners with the fastest time being 17:14. The morning started off cool then the temperature slowly started to rise, I think everyone felt it on Mr Hill. Zenith Tecnica managing director Martyn Newby said the company had years of metal 3D printing experience.Today was Pomphrey Hill parkrun’s 1 year anniversary since coming back after covid and what a lovely morning it was. ''Aircraft interiors are made up of tens of thousands of parts, and the ability to 3D print on demand lightweight parts we only require a small number of, rather than rely on traditional manufacturing methods is of huge benefit to our business, without compromising safety, strength or durability." Parton said while the aerators, made to look like replica aircraft engines, were ''a bit of fun'' they represented the potential of 3D printing. Major plane manufacturers around the world are making more use of 3D printing and in this country Rocket Lab uses the technology to make some engine parts. ''While we are in the initial stages of working with these companies on 3D printing, so far, we have printed prototype metal framing for our Business Premier cabin, to quickly test new concepts and ideas and we have also made novelty wine aerators.'' Air New Zealand chief operations officer Bruce Parton said it was fantastic to team up with a local operator which uses General Electric-built machines. ![]()
